Though I've never appreciated shows that have long paragraphs of text 
about the image (I just don't have the patience to read that much when 
there's photography to enjoy), I do feel that a title can nudge the 
viewer in the right narrative direction.
Unless you're working free-form where you want the viewer to have 
complete control over their emotional journey in response to your work, 
it seems logical (and perhaps polite) to want to guide them a wee bit.
And not to imply that this has anything to do with art (except making 
money from doing it) it makes it much easier for galleries and 
collectors to deal with an image that has a title.
