Jeff -- It isn't worth the trouble. They're not that expensive. Get a new
chemically-etched ground glass from one of the commercial suppliers or on Ebay
from the frequent auctions of dagor77@earthlink.net ("Pure Viewing Pleasure"
etc.). -jb
