Dear list,

I have been officially advised that whatever the MERITS, "we just can't
call another list member a 'misogynistic old fart'" on this most
gemuetlich and lovable of all possible lists... The suggestion was made
therefore that I might "post something to the list to soften the impact."

On this, alas, I find myself at a loss, no matter my loving concern and
abject regrets for ruffling any feathers of innocence afloat in these
waters.

I'm assuming that the trouble was the fart part, not the misogynistic
part, tho the latter of course was the root of the problem. I'd truly
thought that if Garrison Keilor could use the word on family radio (and he
has), it was OK for adult e-mail. As a token of my humility, however, I
stifle the wiseacre t-shirt variants that come to mind, and note only that
under "fart," Roget's thesaurus lists both "bad person" and "flatulence."

Suggestions for other circumlocutions may be made **** OFFLIST ****.

(As we say on the list, I hope this helps.)

Judy
