There is a description of the process and some pictures on

It is in French, but basically it seems to say that bichromated gelatin is
exposed and then washed and cooled, when the pigments are applied using a
very soft brush, being absorbed in pockets of water in the soft gelatin,
before being heated to 40 C to make the image final. I think.

Wasn't quite sure whether the last para should be taken as technical
information or not:
