For anyone who lives in or near Seattle, or who is able to make it to
Seattle, the Seattle Art Museum has a great exhibition of the Hallmark
collection of photographs. It has many platinum, palladium, gum, albumen,
and silver images from a vast range of photographers from the late 19th
century to the present. Represented among the early pioneers are: Steichen,
Steiglitz, Strand, Brigman, Clarence White, and others. If you have the 1st
or 2nd edition of the Hallmark Collection book ("From Dry Plate to Digital"),
you know the reproductions in the book are excellent, HOWEVER, the actual
images tend to be more on the incredible side. I do not know where the
exhibition is traveling next, but it will be in Seattle until January.
