Judy -- I wonder if it could have been referring to "Kodalk."  My 8th edition 
of the Photo-Lab Index (1946) describes Kodalk as: "A proprietary alkali of 
the Eastman Kodak Company protected under U.S. Patents Nos. 1,976,299 and 
1,990,800."  It then describes its use in developers.  This is at p. 13-25.  
There are several developer formulas listed which contain Kodalk at pp. 6-12, 
6-13 and 6-23, and more.  It was also in several fixers.  It is NOT listed as 
an ingredient in any Kodak toner formula.  Does this make any sense for your
