I would add to that : Except for the Daguerreotype process and 
certain gelatin-silver plates made by Slavich .
Extensive study of the Daguerreotype's image particles has 
only recently been possible with the advent of the 
Scanning Electron Microscope. (see Barger and White :
The Daguerreotype )
Modern gelatin-silver plates of extreme resolution are 
currently available from Russia that make it possible to 
create Lippmann photographs that require the recording of 
light down to the half-wavelength.
