It really hasn't been that bad.

They are not arguing *only* about whether it can or cannot be done. They
mentioned problems and the method(s) that have been done to minimize or
eliminate the problems.

While it might be still argueable (of course "discussable" is even better) to
the experienced about whether those methods can completely eliminate the
problems or whether they can yield good repeatibility, for an inexperienced
person such as myself, it is helpful to read and know about some of the
problems and some of the attemps to eliminate the problems. I do learn
something from the thread about carbon although I am not doing carbon at this
point.
