I've found that different gum arabics have different speeds, that is, one
gum 14 printed with a given formula and exposure time would go to, say
step 8, another with the same formula & exposure, to step 12; others
inbetween.
The *slowest* gum thus becomes useful for masking.  Mine is nearly used up
& no longer made. I've been seeking the operative factor. It isn't pH. 
Perhaps it's soil conditions, or distilling method, or cosmic radiation
in the atmosphere.  I'm trying preservatives.
