Luis said that David could not have obtained his fine gravure by happy
accident.

There is no doubt that Luis is right. There are so many steps and
variables to contend with that to get a good print through serendipity
would akin to the infinite number of monkeys using an infinite number of
type writers in an infinity being able to write the complete works of
Shakespear.

My difficulty when I started was that I found the books I referred to
confusing or over complicated. Now I find that over 90% of people coming on
my workshops go home with a respectable gravure print that they have made
themselves. Some of them are neither expert in photography or printing.
I think that this is mainly because I have broken the process down into
simple steps that are easy to follow.

I am rather pleased with my collection of the students' gravures.

Incidentally Bas tells me that there is a book byJohn de Zoete which is THE
book on gravure. I am checking to see if this still available.
